The International Day for Persons with Disabilities was celebrated on 2nd December 2017 at Chetanalaya Head Office by Chetanalaya in collaboration with the Evangelical Fellowship of India Commission on Relief (EFICOR). About 250 PwDs participated for the event.
Mr. Gyanendra, psychologist (Vocational Rehabilitation Center) and Rev. Fr. John Britto Xavier, Director – Chetanalaya graced the occasion as the chief guests.
The event began with the lighting ceremony. Representatives from EFICOR gave a brief introduction about their organization and how they serve the poor, socially excluded and the marginalized in situations of poverty, injustice and disaster by engaging in Development, Disaster Response and Training.
Further, the day was celebrated with cultural programmes like dance performances (girl with a missing limb from Sunder Nagri& two physically challenged boys from Jahangirpuri. One of them also holds a ‘Limca Book of World Records’ for their achievement), magic show by another differently abled, a skit on the topic – ‘See my abilities and Trust the abilities of the Differently – Abled’ performed by the PwDs (EFICOR).
Sign Language is the primary language of people who are deaf and is one of several communication options used by people who are deaf or hard-of-hearing. Thus, for the benefit of all, abasic sign language sessionwas conducted at the event by Ms. Lalita from Ingram School. This was followed by motivational session by Mr. Vipul from Accenture. Towards the end of the programme, many differently abled people shared their life journey with the audience. These PwDs were also given prizes by the chief guests. This was followed by a vote of thanks by Mr. Vinay Kumar (EFICOR)
