Access to Micro Finance for Sustainable livelihood

One of the most important aspects of the women’s empowerment programmes is to make the women independent. Similarly the poverty alleviation programme of Chetanalya is to enable all women and men to attain and secure sustainable livelihoods through employment and work. The Self Help Group movement carried out by Chetanalaya is proved to be an effective strategy in the fight against poverty and corruption. Chetanalaya caters its services to the poor through self help group from the slums and resettlement colonies of Delhi. Thus it plays a major role in building the nation in empowering the marginalized to achieve the resource accessibility and economic power. And as a result the SHG movement provides social security for the weaker sections of the society in general.

Chetanalaya has engaged informing federations at different areas to consolidate and sustain the growth of SHG’s at the local level. Over 25,000 families have entered into SHG which have enabled 8000 women to engage in income generating activities. As a result the SHG’s have shown to have a positive effect on women. Hence SHG’s have transferred the real economic power in the hands of women and has considerably reduce their dependence on man.

Chetanalaya in affiliation with national institute of open schooling (NIOS), has opened many community colleges which offers around ten courses in its 48 vocational educational centre’s. These centre’s run job oriented courses such as embroidery, fashion designing, cutting and tailoring, typing, computer education etc. Chetanalaya community colleges impart highly job oriented quality education that would give them an edge in their present day life.

Vocational programmes have ensured that the youth are utilized in much useful ways. Young girls who often don’t complete education are also a part of these skill training and have been able to work independently. Entrepreneurship training are conducted periodically due to which the women are able to work independently. As a result the standard of life of economically marginalized people in Delhi and Haryana has changed a lot. Thus banks and financial institutions like NMDFC, RMK have come forward to sanction micro loan assistance. It is heartening to know that hundreds of women have utilized this amount for their welfare activities.

Therefore Chetanalaya has taken initiatives and have formed many SHG’s in every corner of Delhi as well as Haryana. These SHG’s provide a platform for women to come together to express solidarity to celebrate success and to commit ourselves a new to a struggle ahead for a gender sensitive society.
