GRC-Himmatpuri

Himmatpuri is one of the Villages in East Delhi Tehsil in Delhi State located in 28°36’15″N 77°18’5″E. The nearby cities to the village are Old Faridabad, Sadh Nagar, Palam Colony and villages are Anand Vihar, Chilla, Govind Pura, Krishna Nagar, Patparganj, Surajmal Vihar. The people are migrants from the state of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Bihar and Rajasthan. They work as rickshaw pullers, construction workers, vegetable and fruit vendors, fish sellers, shopkeepers, daily wage labourers etc. Most of the people are illiterate and are involved in crime related activities and in worst condition of females in terms of social status. Decision making is done by men and women have only a subordinate role to play in the family as well as in the community

Gender Resource Centres-Suvidha Kendras serve as first point of contact for the community. These structures have been set up by the government in partnership with the civil society organizations (CSOs) to reach out to people and take government programmes to communities. GRC-SKs have been setup in areas having vulnerable families based on poverty mapping exercise with a mandate to cater to 15000-20000 households (approx. population of 100000). Starting from just 4 in number, a quantum jump has been made in the last 3 years to have 104 such centres and 20 extension centres all over Delhi.

Chetanalaya come with Delhi government and started Gender Resource Centres-Suvidha Kendra in Himmatpuri. Besides assisting in availing entitlements, centre work towards Social, Economic and Legal empowerment of women by interventions in the area of Legal Rights, Economic initiatives-skill building, microenterprises and entrepreneurship development and health.

  • 6768 individuals benefitted through Information Dissemination Schemes
  • Legal awareness to 1364 beneficiaries
  • 11 SHGs with 127 members
